Notes
  • Providence starter Willard Remaley's 10 K's are the first double digit strikeouts in league history.
  • Ed Crane hit two home runs in game 41, doubling his season total. His other two homers came in game 7.
  • The Hornets' season is ending with as much drama as it began with, and while it's not Buggs Raymond's fault, the issues remain in the infield.  Pittsburgh skipper Ed Curtis benched All-Star SS Jerry Freeman and All-Star 2b Ben Taylor for fighting in the clubhouse.  Their replacements, Delahanty and Wall, performed admirably in their stead, so if this animosity continues, it's a wonder if Curtis will keep his stars off the field, so long as it doesn't affect them clinching the pennant.   Perhaps there was an additional reason Sam Hope abruptly announced his retirement from baseball.
  • Also adding to the drama of clinching the pennant was the placement of ace Jack Lewis onto the Injury List with the duration listed as "Beyond the end of the season."
  • As the New York Knight's player-manager, Ray Knepp has called his own number in relief that most out of the bullpen, appearing 14 times, with a 1-0 record and 2 saves, but he may have called it for the last time.  The skipper placed himself on the Injury List, allowing starter Christopher Henne (2-3) to return to the rotation for the end of the season.
  • Knepp also bench Larry Duttinger for the remainder of the season, the catcher, who broke out as an All-Star outfielder, has been in a horrible slump, dropping over 100 percentage points in the last ten games, with no RBIs.
  • As Providence fights for at least a .500 record, their pitching staff is falling apart, with two starters and a long reliever hitting the shelf, two with injuries that may require off-season surgery.    Manager Buck Surdu will resort to a 4-man rotation.
  • Washington has wisely chosen to begin winning, striking up five wins in the last five games.  They have effectively blocked Newark of any chance of catching Pittsburgh, as well as starting a 5-game losing streak for Boston, and they now sit only one game out of the cellar that Washington has been sitting in for most of the season.  Despite a guaranteed losing season, their 2-1 win over Newark put interim manager Tom Evers above .500 (13-12) for the first time during his tenure.
