August 7, 1920 (Game 41)

Philadelphia 5 - Baltimore 1
Jim Brown (5-4) allowed one run on five hits as the Yellowjackets defeated the Canaries.

Pittsburgh 1 - Providence 0
Willard Remaley (3-3) put on a pitching clinic, allowing two hits, no walks, and striking out a season-high 10 over ten innings.  Unfortunately, the first batter he faced, Ben Taylor, hit a home run (9) to break the scoreless tie and guarantee the Hornets at least a .500 record for the season.   Fred Clarke (4-3) struck out six in his complete game shutout, becoming the last Hornet starter to record a shutout this season.

New York 5 - Newark 1
In the battle for 2nd place, Tern Stauffer hits a home run in his third straight game (5), a three-run shot that gave the Knights the lead in the 2nd, and they never looked back.

Washington 7 - Boston 4
Ed Crane hit two home runs (4) and drove in four runs, but the Statesmen bats outlasted the Clippers. Bradley (8) and Halpin (4) homered for Washington.

Magic Number for Pittsburgh is 7

Commissioner's Notes:  Having cleaned off my desk before vacation, I needed to grab new dice for Game 41.   The first two games were pitching duels both with limited hits and run production, but generating double digit strikeouts for Willard Remaley, and 16 overall for that game.  The NYK-NEW game had a quick burst of power, but things reverted to the league pitching averages with Washington's win, although 19 hits between teams was still impressive offense in this second half of the season.
