The Hornets combined for three home runs of Baltimore starter Pop Bender, as they inched closer to the pennant. Ben Taylor hit a lead-off homer (10), followed immediately by Bert Bell 2nd in as many games (4). Matt Broderick added a 2-run shot in the third (6).

Yellowjacket hitters thwarted Thomas Weitlich's attempt for an eighth win (7-3) with key triples by
George Daisy and Joe Quinn. Jerry Moore (4-1) struck out six and the Clarence Cross struck out two more in the 9th for his 1st save.

Carl Trevitz batted 3-for-4, and drove in three runs with a double and his first home run of the season as the Commodores gave the Clippers their fourth straight loss. Mark Shingle pitched the minimum to earn his 6th win (6-2) and Nick Evans pitched an extended save for his 3rd of the season.

Dave Drew hit a 2-run triple as the Statesmen held on to defeat the Eagles.
