August 10, 1920 (Game 42)

Philadelphia 3 - Baltimore 1
John Kleber hit a lead-off home run for his 6th of the season, but the Yellowjackets assembled one solid inning of hitting in the 5th to score three and secure the win.

Pittsburgh 4 - Providence 3
Lee Dasher's pinch-hit single with two out in the bottom of the tenth, started enough of a rally to allow him to later score on a Jerry Freeman single to move the Hornets a game closer to the pennant.

Newark 3 - New York 2
The Eagles ruin New York's pursuit of Pittsburgh with an Pat Scanlon bases-loaded triple in the 7th.  New York starter Wolfgang Runyan (2-5) looked to be in position to earn the victory, before giving up three successive singles, followed by Scanlon's rocket that careened off the wall in deep center.  Despite getting pulled in the 7th, John Cattanach (4-3) was credited with the victory, and Jack Brennan pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 10th save of the season.

Washington 7 - Boston 3
Statesmen bats came to life, chasing Boston starter Wayne Breaux (2-3) in the 4th inning, and Washington reliever Jim McDonald pitched four perfect innings to secure the win. Clippers 3b John Irwin hit two hom runs (6) in the loss.

Pittsburgh's MAGIC NUMBER is 5!
