Notes
  • Providence starter Willard Remaley leads all pitchers with a .400 batting average. Jack Lewis (PIT) has the longest hitting streak among pitchers, at 5 games.
  • Providence utility infielder Jeff Gray has batted 2-for-18 this season, both hits being home runs. He's also been walked six times, aiding to his statistical anomaly of scoring five times this season.
  • Newark player-manager Tim Murnane benched himself the Eagles 5-1 loss to Baltimore, snapping his 39-game played games streak.
  • Baltimore starter Harry Wright was set to pitch the final inning in his 5-1 win over Newark, but he stumbled down the dugout stairs and injured himself. Hal McKnight was inserted to pitch a perfect 9th for his 9th save of the season. It appears the injury is significant and Wright will almost certainly miss the rest of the regular season, possibly more.
  • Every team but Washington still has an outside shot of catching Pittsburgh for the pennant, but Philadelphia's chances just decline greatly with them shelving closer Charlie Doughterty for the rest of the season, and possibly a good deal of next season as well. The reliever has been 1-1 with 8 saves, and has only allowed one earned run in 18 1/3 innings of work (0.49 ERA).
  • The recent inclusion of infielder Bert Isla in Pittsburgh starting line-up became more apparent with the submission of retirement paperwork for starting 3B Sam Hope. While only 24, recent medical discoveries may have forced the young man's hand in quitting baseball. Hope batted .269 this season, with five home run and 12 RBIs. Hope does have enough games in to qualify for the Golden Glove Fielding Award at third base.
