August 31, 1920 (Game 49)
Baltimore 3 - Boston 1
Robert Ferguson (6-3) gave up one run on four hits and struck out seven in nine innings, giving Boston their 9th straight loss, while Baltimore is now guarantied a .500 record or above. Boston starter Socks Seybold (3-4), who also pitched a complete game in his loss, scored his only run support for the game with a solo shot (2) in the 6th inning.
New York 2 - Washington 1
Despite an Al Bradley lead-off homer run (10), the Knights pieced together enough runs to overcome the Statesmen and earn Thomas Weitlich his 8th win of the season. Weitlich was responsible for the go-ahead run, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Roger Dickinson, but he came up gimpy after a collision at home with Washington catcher Chris Fulmer. He gingerly pitched the fifth inning to qualify for the win, and the bullpen pitched four shutout innings in support.
Newark 7 - Pittsburgh 2
Newark got home runs from McKechnie (8), Sladen (2) and Dum (1) to power a victory past the Hornets.
Philadelphia 11 - Providence 1
Philadelphia erupted with a record-breaking 19 hits, 5 triples, and possibly the most men LOB in a 9-inning game while they trounced Providence. Tom Ryder went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer (6), and a 3-run triple.
