August 19, 1920 (Game 45)

Baltimore 2 - Pittsburgh 0
Canaries starter Robert Ferguson (5-3) successfully held on to a complete game shutout of the first place Hornets, striking out five.  Louie Kramer's double at the top of the 1st drove in the only runs of the game.

New York 3 - Philadelphia 1
Roger Hoffman's third home run of the season kicked off a three-run 7th which was enough for the Knights to overcome the Yellowjackets.  Leo Yazinski had already been pulled after the top of the 7th, but enjoyed the benefits of the rally for his sixth win. Lou Rinaldi pitched a perfect 9th for his 8th save.

Providence 8 - Boston 6
In a slugfest, the Commodores hit four home runs to the Clippers three, while giving Boston their fifth straight defeat.  Providence closer Stanley Davis finally gave up a run after ten scoreless appearances, via back to back homers by Tommy McCarthy and Kenny Twelves, but earned his 6th save of the season.

Washington 2 - Newark 1
Utility infielder Phil Baker hit a bases-loaded single over the heads of the pulled in outfield in the bottom of the 11th inning to the end the offensive impotence and give Washington it's fifth straight victory.  Homers by Tim Murnane (10) and Jim Halpin (6) were the only other runs scored in the game.

PITTSBURGH'S MAGIC NUMBER IS NOW 1 !!!!!!!!
