Notes
  • With Fred Tenney's injury placing him on the Injured List after the break, Providence Commodores recalled 1B Lew Brown to take over. Unfortunately, Brown missed his initial train, missing the first game back and forcing manger Ken Goecke to use Georgie Rincon. Including game 26, Rincon had played 1B three times, committing an error in each game.
  • Newark Manager/1B Tim Murnane remains the only player to have played every game this season. In an interview after the Eagles 5-0 loss to Philadelphia, the skipper acknowledged that he was tired and had wanted to pull himself out of the line-up many games before, but circumstances forced his hand to keep him on the line-up card. He had penciled in Eddie Rauch for the 3 position, but Henry Mullin had tweaked his shoulder during batting practice, so he was scratched, Rauch moved back to left field, and Murnane continued the streak. Murnane quietly mentioned that only one extra outfielder and three rarely used back-up infielders was not his desire, and that should be changed during the next transaction update.
  • The injury to Andy Leonard has forced Baltimore to bring up their fourth catcher for the season (Ross Barnes - Andy Leonard - Mark Kahn - Edward Clarke). Collectively they have batted .24 with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
  • In a shocking move, Washington placed teenage catcher Joe Gunson on waivers for his release and signed Toledo Mud Hens back-up catcher Dennis "Spud" Murphy to a respectable contract for an older player on in their second year. The 28-year old Murphy batted .226 in a full season in the American Association, and .212 thus far this season, still a sizable improvement from Gunson and Chris Fulmer's performance. It appears that none of Washington's affiliated catchers in the Class-D have given new manger Tom Evers any confidence, although it appears Edward Blasco is slated to be the next in-house call-up if something else goes any more wrong than the Statesmen's current season.
